While the Tydfil Tytans is mostly extra-curricula, The College Merthyr Tydfil has a dedicated Esports pathway in education for those who want to have a future in the esports industry. These courses focus on developing skills ready to enter into the Esports industry, allowing our learners to step into any of the exciting pathways above!
Level 3 Esports
Course Overview
The level 3 in Esports will be many students first steps into the esports industry. This course will teach learners vital skills from a variety of different professions within the esports industry - it's not just playing games!
Learners will study a range of different areas within the industry, giving them a taste of the areas which they may want to pursue in their careers once they leave us. Learners will study areas such as branding, events management, games design, streaming & broadcasting, video production, as well as many others, and will have the opportunity to undertake major projects to investigate and develop their skills in areas that they personally want to focus on, laying the foundations of their future career.

Course Type: Full-Time
Equivalent to: 3 A-Levels
Entry Requirements
After the Course
Once you have completed your two years studying the Level 3 in Esports at The College, you will have achieved a qualification equivalent to 3 A-Levels. Many of our students go onto University or go straight into employments, however, if you would like to spend another 2 years with us, the Level 3 in Esports gives you immediate entry onto a Foundation Degree in Esports at The College - the only one of its kind in Wales!
To study the Level 3 in Esports, we require that learners possess 5 GCSEs, ranging from A* - C. We do not require a specific grade in English or Maths, however, due to the nature of the course, we recommend that learners have a C in English Language.
